Speakboth
AI Processing Consent
The consent text the Speakboth app shows before your first translation.
Version 1, effective October 16, 2026
What you agree to
Speakboth translates with AI provided by third parties. By agreeing, you allow the app to send the content described below to our server, which forwards it to OpenAI to translate it or to write notes on a translation and, in conversations, to ElevenLabs to turn speech into text and translations into speech. If you let Speakboth detect the language, OpenAI also recognises the language you wrote in. The result is returned to the app.
What is sent and what is not
- Text: the text you type or paste, the source language (or a request to detect it), the target language and the tone.
- Camera and photos: the lines of text your iPhone recognises in the camera image or in a photo you take or choose, with the languages. Your iPhone recognises the text itself; the photo and the camera image never leave your iPhone.
- Notes: when you ask for the meaning, examples and synonyms of a translation, the original text, the translation, their languages and the language the notes are written in.
- Conversations: while a person speaks in a conversation, the audio of what they say and the languages. ElevenLabs turns the audio into text, OpenAI translates the text, and ElevenLabs turns the translation into speech, which your iPhone plays.
- Not sent: your name, your account ID, your IP address or any other details of your account.
What stays on your iPhone
These features send nothing and are not covered by this consent:
- Offline translation on iOS 18 or later: text in languages you downloaded is translated on your iPhone with Apple’s Translation framework.
- Read aloud: translations are read aloud by the voices on your iPhone.
- Saved translations: your history and favorites are stored only on your iPhone.
Conversations by voice
In a conversation, two people talk face to face with one iPhone on the table and speak in turn. Speakboth uses the microphone only during a conversation, after you allow it when iOS asks, and your iPhone detects when a person stops speaking. What is said is sent and translated as described above. This consent covers conversations too.
What is kept
- Your text, the recognised lines of a photo, what is said in conversations (audio and text), the translations and the notes are not stored: not in our database and not in our logs.
- We keep a technical record of each request (time, languages, tone, number of characters, AI model and cost) with a one-way fingerprint of the request, for up to 400 days or until you delete your account. The fingerprint does not contain your text.
- For conversations we keep a technical record of each call to ElevenLabs or OpenAI (time, languages, duration or number of characters, model, cost and whether it succeeded) for up to 400 days or until you delete your account, and we count the conversation minutes used each week for your plan’s weekly allowance.
- OpenAI receives each request with storage turned off. Under its terms for its API, OpenAI may keep requests for up to 30 days to detect abuse and does not use them to train its models. OpenAI processes requests on its global infrastructure, which may be in the United States or in other countries outside the EU.
- ElevenLabs, Inc. (United States) processes what is said in conversations as our service provider under its data processing agreement, which includes the EU Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers. It stores the data in the United States and does not use it to train its models; we have turned model training off for our account. ElevenLabs may keep audio and text for as long as its data processing agreement allows, to provide its service.
Your choice
Speakboth cannot translate online, translate with the camera, write notes or translate conversations without sending your content to its AI providers, so these features need this consent. If you do not agree, nothing is sent and they are not available. Do not translate information you would not share with an AI provider, such as passwords or other people’s sensitive data.
Withdrawing consent
You can withdraw your consent at any time in Speakboth’s Settings. From then on nothing is sent to our AI providers, and online translation, camera translation, notes and conversations are unavailable until you agree again. We keep a record of when you gave or withdrew consent, which version and in which language, as proof of your choice; after account deletion it is kept without your IP address or device.
Legal basis and changes
The legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR and of the UK GDPR, and the corresponding laws where you live, such as the KVKK in Türkiye). If we change what you agree to, for example by sending your content for a purpose this text does not describe, we publish a new version and ask you again before you use these features again. More about your data and your rights is in the privacy policy.
